Fence for Fun

Who doesn't want to be a Jedi or Musketeer? This program is designed for students ages 6-8. Fencing with a whole lot of fun and games. Masks and plastic swords will be provided.

 

Class frequency per week: 1

Day/Time: Saturday, 10am to 10.50am

Equipment requirements: None; equipment will be provided

Cost: $200.00 per term


Home School Program

This program is for beginning and intermediate fencers who prefer to participate in a home school class. Classes include warm-up, games, skill development and coordination/agility development, fencing and fencing games.

 

Class frequency per week: 1

Day/Time: Thursday, 11am to 12pm

Equipment requirements: None; equipment will be provided

Cost: $200.00 per term (Voyager will receive a 20% discount)


Learn to Fence on Half School Days in Concord

Calling all Concordians! This class is designed to give students from grades 2-5 an introduction to fencing. It follows the early release schedule for Concord schools. Students must wear long athletic pants, athletic shoes and shirts. Shorts or shoes with holes are not permitted.

 

Class frequency per week: 1

Day/Time: Tuesday, 1pm to 1.50pm

Equipment requirements: Full set required. Students can rent all equipment at a fee of $50.00 for the term.

Cost: $200.00 per term


Teen/Adult Program

This program is designed for adults who want to try fencing or who want to continue recreationally. Classes are held once a week and all equipment are available for rent. Students must wear long athletic pants, athletic shoes and shirts. Shorts or shoes with holes are not permitted.

 

Class frequency per week: 1

Day/Time: Tuesday, 8pm to 9pm. Option for ladies: see Ladies Who Lunge Class detail below

Equipment requirements: Full set required. Students can rent all equipment at a fee of $50.00 for the term.

Cost: $200.00 per term

 

Ladies Who Lunge Class (Women only)

Day/Time: Friday, 11.30am to 12.20pm

Cost: $200.00 per term


Youth Program

This program is designed for beginning fencers ages 8-14 to learn the physical and technical skills of fencing. Students are given a study guide for the course, and a different topic is covered each week. This program is ongoing. Students may join at any time and progress at their own pace. Students must wear long athletic pants, athletic shoes and shirts. Shorts or shoes with holes are not permitted.

 

Class frequency per week: 2

Day/Time: Attend any two classes each week. Monday - Friday, 4pm to 4.50pm. Saturday 10am to 10.50am.

Wednesday classes are for girls only.

Equipment requirements: Full set required. Students can rent all equipment at a fee of $50.00 for the term.

Cost: $340.00 per term; one class per week option: $200.00


Youth Competitive (Foil and Epee)

The Youth Competitive program is designed for fencers who want to further their fencing skills and compete at the local and regional level. Fencers improve their skills through drills, organized bouting and conditioning exercises. Both group and short individual lessons are provided during class. Athletes at this level must own all fencing equipment and be attired appropriately for each class.

 

Class frequency per week: 3

Day/Time: Varies depending on weapon group. Refer to class schedule.

Equipment requirements: Full personal set required.

Cost: $540.00 per term


Competitive Program (Foil and Epee)

The Competitive Program is designed for fencers who have competed at regional/national events and completed the Youth Competitive program. Students in this program attend three classes per week, and receive two private lessons. Goals at this level may include making a national team or competing for an NCAA college. As such, this program requires a 10-month commitment. Athletes at this level must own all fencing equipment and be attired appropriately for each class.

 

Class frequency per week: 3, inclusive of 2 private lessons

Day/Time: Varies by weapon group. Refer to class schedule.

Equipment requirements: Full personal set required.

Cost: $1190.00 per term; $990.00 with 1 private lesson


Private Lessons

Private lessons are typically scheduled for fencers of the Competitive program. However, if you're interested to have one, you should talk to a coach or have it arranged through the front desk.

 

Duration: 30 minutes

Cost: Between $30.00 to $70.00


Non-Members Looking to Spar

We welcome experienced, non-member fencers to the academy for our open bouting sessions!

 

Open bouting is limited to summer hours and will be posted each week in the announcement bar.

Cost: $15.00 for each session of attendance

When Should You Join?

Our classes and programs run in 8 week terms. If you are looking to try fencing for the first time, you may be most comfortable joining at the beginning of the term with other beginners in the class. However, there are certainly no hard and fast rules for this. Everyone learns the sport at a different pace. Our coaches observe and dedicate resources to each fencer according to their needs.

Membership with USA Fencing

USFA Membership is compulsory for all, including beginners.

All fencers (including guests, open bouting and foreign fencers taking private lessons) are required to hold membership in competitive, professional or non-competitive capacity. Membership fees start from $10.00 per annum for the non-competitive category.

Membership with Marx Fencing Academy

Membership is required for fencers in the Competitive programs.

Members are entitled to:

  • Open bouting sessions
  • Priority access to all Marx Fencing Academy camps, clinics and weekend training sessions
  • Represent Marx Fencing Academy at all tournaments
  • Receive coaching at Local, Regional, National and International tournaments 

 

COST

Individuals: $400.00 per annum

Family (regardless of family size): $600.00 per annum

Marx Fencing Academy Athlete Registration

All athletes of Marx Fencing Academy are required to register their information with us for purposes of safety and communication. The profiles gathered will further enable our coaches to disseminate tailored information about, as well as recommendations of upcoming competitions to parents and fencers.
