Fence for Fun

Who doesn't want to be a Jedi or Musketeer? This program is designed for students ages 6-8. Fencing with a whole lot of fun and games. Masks and plastic swords will be provided.

Youth Beginner Program

This program is designed for kids between the ages 8-14 who are with no prior fencing experience. It lays the foundational knowledge, physical and technical skills for fencing. Students are given a study guide of skills which will be covered and assessed each week. Upon completion of their skills, they will be invited to continue in the Youth Intermediate Program. Students may join at any time and progress at their own pace.

Long athletic pants, athletic shoes and shirt must be worn; shorts or shoes with holes are not permitted.

Equipment requirements: Full set required (mask, jacket, chest protector, underarm protector and glove.) Students can rent all equipment at a fee of $50.00 for the term.

Adult Program

This program is designed for adults with little or no experience in fencing, as well as those who want to continue recreationally. Teens who are 14 years and above are welcome to join. Classes are held once a week on Wednesdays.

Students must wear long athletic pants, athletic shoes and shirts. Shorts or shoes with holes are not permitted.

You may bring your own equipment or rent from the club.

Youth Intermediate

The Youth Intermediate program caters to fencers between the ages 8-15 who have completed the assessment of foundational skills in the Youth program. Athletes will try their hand at foil and epee in a more challenging environment. Students are given a study guide of skills which will be covered and assessed each week. Upon completion of their skills, they will be invited to continue in the Pre-Competitive Program. Students may join at any time and progress at their own pace. After one term, students must own their own equipment and become Jr. members of MFA

Pre-Competitive (Foil and Epee)

The Pre-Competitive program is designed for experienced fencers who would like to further their skills with a goal to compete at the local and regional level. At this stage, students would have been sorted to specialize in either the foil or epee. Expect to compete in local competitions appropriate for their level.

Students at this level must own all fencing equipment and be attired appropriately for each class.

Girls’ Foil (Add-on Class)

The Girls Foil add-on class is offered to girls of the Pre-Competitive program only or by invitation of a coach.

Competitive Program (Foil and Epee)

The Competitive Program is only open to fencers who are actively competing at regional and national events. Students in this program attend three classes per week and receive private lessons. Goals at this level may include making a national team or competing for an NCAA college. As such, this program requires a 10-month commitment. Athletes at this level must own all fencing equipment and be attired appropriately for each class.

Competitive ABC

The Competitive ABC is an add-on class offered to A, B and C-rated fencers of the Competitive program only.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are automatically included for students in the Competitive program. However, they can be recommended and scheduled for a student to advance more quickly. Non-member fencers who are keen on taking private lessons will be assessed on a case by case basis.

If you're interested in a private lesson, you should talk to a coach, and have it arranged through the front desk.

 

Duration: 30 minutes

Cost: Between $30 to $75.


Open Bouting

Experienced, non-member fencers are welcome to join our open bouting sessions. A simple floor fee will be charged for each session.

 

Day/Time: Summer Bouting Monday - Thursday 6:00pm-8:00pm

Registration

Our classes and programs run in 8 week terms. Our classes are ongoing so that you may join at anytime. Everyone learns the sport at a different pace. Our coaches observe and dedicate resources to each fencer according to their needs.

Membership with USA Fencing

USFA Membership is compulsory for all, including beginners.

All fencers (including guests, open bouting and foreign fencers taking private lessons) are required to hold membership in competitive, professional or non-competitive capacity. Membership fees start from $10.00 per annum for the non-competitive category.

Membership with Marx Fencing Academy

Membership is required for fencers in all Competitive programs.

Members are entitled to:

  • Open bouting sessions
  • Priority access to all Marx Fencing Academy camps, clinics and weekend training sessions
  • Represent Marx Fencing Academy at all tournaments
  • Receive coaching at Local, Regional, National and International tournaments 

 

COST

Jr. Membership:  $125 per annum (Pre Competitive)

Individuals: $400 per annum

Family: (regardless of family size): $600 per annum

Athlete Database

All athletes of Marx Fencing Academy are required to register their information with us for purposes of safety and communication. The profiles gathered will further enable our coaches to disseminate tailored information about, as well as recommendations of upcoming competitions to parents and fencers.

Please note that this database is one part of the class registration- it lets us know that you will be taking the class and includes the necessary waivers and athlete information to process your payment and class choice.
